Only the most dominant mixed martial artists ever develop winning streaks. In fact, winning more than one loses is usually considered very good in a sport with so much uncertainty. A wide variety of punches, joint locks, kicks, chokes, and elbow/knee strikes could end a fight in a heartbeat. Momentary lapses in concentration or simply an unlucky exchange are all that's needed for a fighter to lose. Heavyweights have an even harder time consistently winning because the extra muscle that lets them hit harder than any other weight class but does nothing to make their heads better at absorbing damage.

Despite these odds, there is one heavyweight who held what was virtually a 31-fight winning streak until his recent defeat at the hands of Fabricio Werdum. The man in question is none other than Fedor Emelianenko. His slightly chubby appearance might lead some to overlook his gladiatorial prowess; however, anyone who saw his recent demolition of heavy-handed Strikeforce star Brett Rogers would think otherwise.

The only other fight classified as a loss on his official record, suffered at the hands of Tsuyoshi Kohsaka, is more a technicality than a clear loss. Kohsaka had opened a cut on Emelianenko's face with an illegal elbow. The tournament the two were competing in followed an elimination format. Fedor was too injured to continue so the judges ruled Kohsaka the victor so someone could be advanced into the next round.
